Know Yourself As The Observer

I often talk to clients about finding peace among all that’s going on “out there” and “in there.” Something to try:

If you could picture yourself as a bit separate from what’s going on around you.  A bit of an observer – noticing the emotions, thoughts, sensations, smells, and sights of all that whirls and swirls in your awareness.  Both inside and outside the body.

Take a moment to stand still.  Still the body, slow the breath, and feel the weight of your feet on the ground.  Notice that when you stop – life continues to proceed and unfold around you.
There is nothing you have to DO.  Life is unfolding FOR you.

Now let go and take a step further back in your awareness.
Who or what is the still presence observing all that’s inside and outside?  Who or what is observing the emotions, thoughts, images, people?

Give This A Try – A Meditation for Sitting In The Power

Below is a meditation I do daily that grounds me and reminds me that I’m always with my Higher Self, Guides, and Source/Light/God.  This type of meditation is also referred to as Sitting In The Power.  Or sitting in YOUR power.  This simply means you are elevating your vibration to where you are no longer “your body” or your “human story”.  You are remembering who you really are and you feel the vibration of love and light instead of the denser vibrations of Earth.

“The Spontaneous Healing of Belief”

Imagination is everything.  It is a preview of life’s coming attractions.
-Einstein

Today I’m going to recommend a thought provoking book to start off the New Year: The Spontaneous Healing of Belief by Gregg Braden.

I’m going to use this post to lay out some key thoughts, or Belief Codes, that Braden details in his book.  These codes make you think about how we are interacting – and creating – our reality. In a time where fear often runs rampant, it’s so important to remember to keep our emotions and vision of what we want for our lives in the forefront.

Remain Conscious Of The Energy You Spread To The World

The pessimist complains about the wind;
The optimist expects it to change;
The realist adjusts the sails
-William Arthur Ward, author

It goes without saying that the world we live in – complete with hurricanes, shootings, war, politics – can be daunting, confusing, and heartbreaking at times.  I too feel this when I read the news headlines and I question “what is going on?”  But after a bit of time stewing in the lower vibrating energy of asking why and how could they, I know it’s time to step up to the higher perspective. I take a moment to find my center, breathe into the present moment where my mind chatter calms down, and realize that the best I can do to help is to hold my own energy high in the face of the pain – and growth – going on in our world.

While I don’t ignore what’s going on in the news, I do make a conscious choice not to become addicted to the drama.  It’s easy to be sucked into the news cycle, where the effects can be felt both emotionally and physically in the body.  So while I choose not to trivialize events going on, I also choose not to let them darken my personal energy space.  This does a disservice to those who are suffering.  Instead, by consciously holding ourselves in a space of light, that is the wavelength we broadcast to the world.  And this is how the world grows and changes even in the midst of pain.

Using Tibetan Bowls To Center Into Your Heart

It seems that “life” overtook me in August and unfortunately that meant putting my blog on the back burner while cabin trips, camping, photography shoots, and life with a husband and two kids took most of my time and energy.

Without much time to myself, I end up craving those few and far between moments of being alone; time to be still with myself and process all that’s going on both outside and in.  I find that when life gets busy, I end up being more and more inside my mind, or my left brain, to be exact.  A little less into my creative and intuitive right brain side – the side that I find I prefer more.  Planning and packing for trips, and keeping two kids entertained every day, as well as maybe reading too many news stories…I was finding myself too in my head and not enough in my heart.  The good thing is that I can now realize when this happens, and do my best to turn it around.  Over and over again I learn, that if I don’t take care of myself – through meditation, time alone, or yoga – then the whole family feels the effects.  I know my husband can vouch for this!

So I found a great, and quick, 10 minute Tibetian bowl heart mediation that I listened to over and over this past month.  What I love about sound healing (through the bowls in this case) is that it truly gives your mind a break.  Unlike a guided mediation where you are visualizing and following along with spoken words, the tones of the bowls do all the work for you.  We as souls and bodies are essentially made up of moving sounds waves that vibrate.  In this way, when we become out of balance (too much in our head or not enough in our lower chakras to ground us) then we experience inbalance in our lives either through unwanted emotions, sickness, depression, etc.

This is where Tibetian bowls come in.  By simply listening and relaxing into your breath, your energy field will begin to resonate with the tones and in turn give your energy body a sort of “tune up.”  I love that you can actually feel the vibration of these tones and you will actually feel different after listening to them.  Your body will begin to vibrate as it should; centered, calm, and alert.

Please listen with headphones on to get the full effect.  I listen sitting up, with both feet on the ground, to allow the vibrations to move up and down my spine.  It’s only 10 minutes, so it’s simple to fit in.  This meditation nicely merges the heart chakra with the mind.  These two should flow together – in harmony – rather than one completely overtaking the other.

It’s so important to remain centered in our heart chakra.  This space is our connection to our Divine self, as well as the higher realms, and brings us insight and peace in the moment despite all that is going on around us.  Too often the everyday ups and downs of life on Earth can take us over (as my Summer proved!).  Yet by gently reminding ourselves that we are beings of sound and light, we are able to live a life filled with more compassion and grace.

Nicki

Inviting Angels Into Your Life

When I first started my journey to dig deeper into spirituality and metaphysics, I didn’t think too much about higher beings, such as angels.  I grew up with a vague awareness and certainly some religious-tied beliefs about angels, but it was nothing I gave much thought to.  I have to admit, I don’t think I really believed angels were around me, and most importantly, I didn’t believe that I could call on them for help, advice, and healing in my own life.  Although a lovely idea, I wasn’t a nun, I wasn’t overly religious, and most importantly, I didn’t have concrete examples of angels in my life that I could refer to.

Why did I not feel the help and guidance of angels?  Because of the gift we are given on Earth: free will.

Angels and higher beings will not interfere in your life without an invitation. That doesn’t mean they aren’t around you when you pray or meditate, but it does mean they’re not going to be interacting directly in your life as they would once you ask for their help and guidance.

When I took my first Reiki class, my teacher talked about angels being around us and how they helped with healing.  I smiled at the thought, and thought of it in an abstract sort of way.  “Well that’s nice…” I said to myself.  But again, with nothing tangible to go from, I didn’t choose to acknowledge them at that point.  I was still new to the idea of thinking of life and the Universe in terms of energy and vibration.

A few years later, as my energy healing abilities started to unfold, I started to realize the power of vibration and frequency.  I started to understand – and experience – that although I can’t see energies of high frequency, they certainly are around us.  I knew because I felt them.  This was finally a tangible thing I could understand.

I began to get the nudge to explore the angelic realm, and more specifically the Archangels. I attribute this curiosity to my Divine Self intuitively telling me this is what would help me on my journey.  I started to read a lot of books from the go-to author on all things angels: Doreen Virtue.  Here’s a link to her books on Amazon.

I found it fascinating to read that the Archangels (such as the familiar Archangels Michael, Raphael, and Gabriel) can help anyone at anytime simply by us taking the time to ask, with an open heart and an open mind.  In the higher dimensions there is no such thing as time as we know it, so angels can help any number of people at any time.

That’s really all there is to it.

This post isn’t going to go into the vast subject of Archangels, but my hope is rather to open the door to others to get to know angels better.  They are all around and you simply have to ask for help – and they are very creative about giving it.  They always respond in the best way, and for your highest good (although not necessarily in the way you ask for or expect).

It’s similar to my post on asking for Divine Guidance, only with the Archangels I’ve learned to work with certain ones for certain things.  When I do a healing session, I like to call in Archangels Michael and Raphael.  For help with finding what’s next on my path I often call on Archangel Uriel, who is able to provide insights.

If you want to start small, ask for help with finding something you lost.  Or with help shopping for a great deal on a new dress you had in mind.  Or go big and ask for guidance for your next career move.  Then do your part by being aware of any insight you receive.  This could be a sudden urge to look something up online (a class you need to take, a contact you should email, etc) or a person could be placed on your path that’s part of the plan.  As you ask for more and more help in areas of your life, you might be pushed to make small changes such as adjusting your eating habits, joining a new group, or de-cluttering your house.  Small steps that will open up to you effortlessly.  Yet it will always be a loving direction.  If anything comes to mind that’s negative towards yourself or others, that’s just your ego getting in the way.

I always thought angels weren’t in my life because I’d never “seen” one with my physical eyes.  However, it’s very rare for an angel to show themselves as their physical bright “light” form and simply say, “listen, let me just handle everything right now that needs to be done”. Wouldn’t our life on Earth be vastly different if we could actually see all the angels helping us?  It might be a bit distracting!

So although I can’t see them, the angels help me with small things on a daily basis, such as getting to a place on time when I’m stuck in traffic,  directing me how to fix something (my husband is amazed by this sometimes) or planting an idea for a blog post or photography shoot.  They also have been instrumental in guiding me on my healing and spiritual path.

The angels work with us in creative ways through other people and animals, and by creating synchronicity in our life.  They will also:
Nudge you to take action
Slow you down if you need to rest and heal
Bring someone into your life to help, teach, or direct you
Provide you with sudden “aha” moments
Help you heal yourself
Always provide assistance for your highest good (not necessary what you think you need)

And what I think is best of all: they will even let you feel their presence during meditation or as you sleep.  Ask for them to be with you, train yourself to become aware of higher vibrational energy around you, and you can feel their very subtle presence.

Remember that an angel is of a vibration of pure love. They are the closest to God/Source/The Creator.  While they are her messengers and her Divine helpers, we have to remember we also have to do our part.  For example, if you want to get to an event on time and you kindly ask for the help of Archangel Michael, you still have to drive the car there. We still have to take steps ourselves and be in the driver’s seat of our life – but everything flows better when the angels are involved.

Finally, if like me you’re not a particularly religious person, don’t let that stop you from contacting the angels.  This isn’t about religion at all.  It’s about remembering where you came from – as a being of pure light.
It’s about opening up to the love that we all have available to us – because it’s what we’re made of.  It’s remembering that you deserve to have a joyful life – and you have a vast reserve of help waiting to be invited in.  When things are less joyful on your journey, as we all experience, remember your free willask for help, and trust you will receive it.

In gratitude,
Nicki

Are You An Empath? Learn To Easily Manage Your Energy

The busyness of Summer is in full swing – both kids are home with me during the day so the house is a wreck, there’s lots of running, swimming, screaming, and general chaos.  Am I making you jealous?  Ha.  I find myself emotionally and physically drained at the end of most days, as I’m sure a lot of people can identify with.  Because of this, I’ve found it imperative, for my sanity and the overall mood of the house, to be more vigilant about keeping my energy body refreshed.  This involves grounding in nature, keeping up with daily mediation, and also doing some guided meditations that are quick and effective – easy to fit in while the kids take a little break as well.  (I’ll include a couple guided meditations later)

What I want to talk about in this post is related to feeling energetically “out of sorts” or drained.  While this can happen to anyone, it occurs in an even more pronounced way if you’re an empath.

How do you know if you’re an empath?

Here are a few common characteristics:
-You can sense and even feel other people’s emotions (sometimes as if they’re your own)
-You may see energy or feel it vibrating “off” of someone
-You can become overwhelmed in crowds (you may avoid crowded places)
-Highly intuitive/psychic
-You feel drained after social gatherings
-Need time alone every day

These are just a few traits, but you get the idea.  Empath can be a “trendy” word in the world of energy work, but it’s a very real thing.  I often felt all of the above list while growing up, but didn’t have the insight or words to name my experience.  Once I was able to realize that I was picking up on other’s energy (often unconsciously) and even carrying it around with me as if it were my own, it was a big eye opener for me.

I believe most people are empathic – we are all connected after all – but not everyone is affected the same way, and not all choose to tap into it and explore it.  For example, my husband, kids, and I came home from a large social gathering earlier this month and the minute we got home I needed to go sit for a bit by myself.  Decompress and get centered.  “Have a moment” as my husband likes to tease me.  But he, on the other hand, went directly outside to visit with our neighbors.  While unimaginable to me, he still craved more socializing.  I’ve asked him if he ever feels “empathic”, and he says he doesn’t identify at all with picking up another’s energy.  Yet I will argue that even if he’s not aware of it, it’s always a good idea to keep our energy and chakras in check.  We are interconnected, and while this is how it should be, it doesn’t mean we have to carry around someone else’s energy or feel the need to “fix” something that doesn’t belong to us.

Empaths also have many admirable qualities, such as often being natural healers and good listeners.  Also, since they’re picking up on energy around them easily, they can use it to their advantage and develop their intuition and connection with higher energies and dimensions.

On the other side, if an empath isn’t aware of all they are picking up on, they can take on other’s moods, problems, and energies and mistake them as their own.  To put it simply, they can care too much.

Empaths are also more likely to attract people with emotional issues to them – and these people can unknowingly drain an empath of their energy.  I’m sure you’ve heard of certain personality types referred to as “emotional vampires”. These aren’t bad people, they just simply feed off of other people’s energy and use it to make themselves feel better, rather than going within and using the energy that’s available to them.  As an empath, you may understand the feeling of needing a three hour nap after going out to dinner with someone who talks and resonates at a low energy vibration, leaving them feeling great after your conversation, while you leave feeling wiped out.  If this sounds familiar, you’re letting your energy drain without your permission or sometimes even your awareness.

Despite the downfalls, it can be a great quality to be empathic.  To sense another’s energy and be able to intuitively help others is a wonderful gift.  Yet it’s also a hinderance if you don’t know how to keep your core energy your core energy.  However, it’s possible to be both empathic and centered in yourself and your own energy.  The key to this is through knowing yourself, and getting to know the peace you can feel, while sitting in stillness.  Yes, meditating!  Or running, swimming, listening to music, or whatever brings you to your center and connects you to your Divine Self.

Once you familiarize yourself with this feeling, you can interact and converse all you’d like, while stopping your energy field from taking on someone else’s emotions, fears, or anxieties.

As humans we ideally strive to be compassionate people.  Yet as an empath it’s important to have an energy of compassion, while also knowing we each are individually a part of the whole.  We each are here to grow in our own unique way, and it’s nobody’s job to take on another person’s energy (even with the best of intentions).

How can you manage your energy field as an empath?

Two things that have helped me are:
1) Energy awareness & protection
2) Meditation & visualization

The first is simple.  If I know I’m going to a social event, or let’s face it, even days I’m home with my kids, I take the easy step to surround myself with protective energy.  I envision a white light coming down from above my head and simply surrounding my whole body with it; almost like a sphere or an egg.  Our mind is powerful, and will directly affect and instruct our energy how to behave.  Since we are made of energy, the mind is capable of performing quantum acts and telling your energy field what to do.  This simple visualization can keep your energy in check.

On to meditation and visualization.  I make it a quick daily practice to clear my energy in the morning (clear away the dream state from your energy) and at the end of the day (clear away all the energy you picked up that day from events and other people).  Below are a couple guided mediations to enjoy.  Try them out and see which visual works best for you.  Once you’ve listened a few times you’ll get the idea and can then do an energy clearing and centering on your own while taking a shower or sitting at your desk at work.  It doesn’t have to be a long process – it can take just a few minutes to clear, ground, and center yourself.

I promise you, as you take the time each day to clear your mind, chakras, and all the layers of your aura, you will soon come to know the feeling of being centered.  And when you inevitably lose that spot (we are human) you’ll find it easy to get back – with the power of your intention.

While it’s magical that we’re all connected through Life Force (Source, God, the Universe) – we are all also on our own journey as a soul.  By being aware of your own energy field, you can hold your light in the center of your self – clear and peaceful from the winds blowing all around you.

I hope you enjoy the guided meditations!

Soaking Up The Energy Of The Summer Solstice

Today, June 20th, marks the Summer Solstice – the longest day of the year in the North (and longest night in the South).  Last year I spend the Summer Solstice at a fascinating group ceremony with a local Shaman.  We spent the night drumming and listening to his insight for each of us for the year to come.  It was certainly something I’d never done before and was a fun way to get outside of my comfort zone.  This year I’m home with the kids and simply taking some time to open up space for the new energy pouring in at this time of year.

Here’s an easy way to stop and enjoy the energy benefits of the Summer Solstice:

  • Write down, or simply reflect, on what you would like to open up to in your life.  This could be a new attitude, new emotion, or letting go of a fear or belief.
  • Rather than making a plea or prayer for the change to be given, state it in the affirmative.  Such as, “thank you for peace in my life”.  State it as if you already have it.
  • Sit (or stand) in the moment and let go of any attachment to what you think you should feel as you breathe in and out for a short while.  By doing this, you are simply opening up new space in your energy field.  If your mind is busy, the simple mantra “I Am The Light” can bring you into the present moment.  By surrendering attachment or expectation, you open up space to create real change.
  • There is no need to overthink any of it.  In fact, trying to be perfect with your intention can simply hold you back.
  • Thank the sun for it’s light – and imagine it’s beams of light flowing throughout your whole body.

Here I am last night soaking it up!

Happy Summer!

Nicki

Make A Simple Energy Routine A Daily Practice

Like most people, I find it challenging some days to carve out time to exercise.  When I do have time I tend to stick to the classic run or walk and possibly some quick yoga.  While cardio has it’s obvious benefits, sometimes we just need a little jumpstart to our energy system that doesn’t require a lot of heavy lifting.  Something that quickly and effectively reconnects us with our body.

When life is busy and we defer to autopilot mode, it’s easy to become disconnected from our body and allow the mind to fully take over.  This can cause energy blocks and a feeling of being ungrounded and out of control.  Our bodies and Divine Self long for us to stop, breathe, and reconnect to the present moment.  To feel the energy coursing through our body.  This is where real healing can happen.

I’ve found that you don’t need a ton of time to get your energy balanced and start your day off feeling present and grounded.  Below is a short video by Donna Eden, a knowledgeable and well known energy medicine teacher.  This is a short energy routine that I like to do either first thing in the morning and/or as a pick-me-up for the late afternoon energy slump.  The first several times I had to use the video, but after a week or so it’s easy to memorize the moves so you can do them on your own – anytime.  My daughter found this video hilarious and tried some moves too.  She’s 3.  If she can do it so can you!

Take note of how you feel before the video and how you feel after.  It’s amazing what a few easy moves can do to get your energy flowing.  Enjoy!

Nicki
